Mayor Dawson’s latest message from the Community Connection Blog on the
Town Website
With a new fiscal year underway, I
find myself reflecting on just how
much our community has
accomplished together over the past
few years. The progress we've made
is something we can all be proud of,
and it is a testament to what can
happen when a community works
toward a shared vision.
From investments in our parks and
public spaces to infrastructure
improvements, downtown revitalization, public safety enhancements,
and continued economic growth, we have built a strong foundation for
Burgaw's future. While there is always work to be done, each
completed project moves us one step closer to a more thriving
community.
As we move through this budget year, our focus remains on
responsibly completing existing projects and improvements already
underway while also launching several exciting new initiatives. We are
committed to investing in the services, facilities, and infrastructure
that continue to enhance quality of life for our residents, support our
local businesses, and prepare Burgaw for future growth.
Progress doesn't happen overnight, but through thoughtful planning,
responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and strong partnerships,
we continue moving forward together.
Thank you for your continued support, your ideas, and your
commitment to making Burgaw such a special place. It continues to be
an honor to serve as your mayor, and I look forward to all that we will
accomplish together in the year ahead.
Together, we will continue building a stronger, more vibrant Burgaw —
one project, one partnership, and one opportunity at a time.

emergency.
The Burgaw Fire Department offers reflective address
signs that are highly visible and can be displayed
horizontally or vertically. Signs are double -sided and are
available for just $10 each.

Good Conversation & Lots of Coffee
We had a great turnout at Coffee & Conversation held on Tuesday, August 18th. It was
wonderful to bring together Town staff, business owners, local leaders, and residents to
share updates, talk about upcoming events and projects, exchange ideas, and simply
stay connected with all that’s happening in Burgaw.
Thank you to everyone who attended and to Brown Dog Coffee Company for providing
the coffee. Save the date for our next gathering of small-town conversations and great coffee to
be held on November 17th at 8:30 AM at the Burgaw Town Center.
Cram the Cruiser
Success!
The Burgaw Police
Department’s annual Cram
the Cruiser Bookbag
Giveaway was a great
success! Thanks to the
support of our community,
the department was able
to give away 132
bookbags to local students
as they head back to
school.
Thank you to everyone
who helped make this
event possible and joined
us in helping our students
start the school year ready
to learn!

School starts again soon in Pender
County. Please be aware of our children as
they board and unload from our
public school buses. North Carolina General
Statute states “When a school bus is
displaying its mechanical stop signal or
flashing red lights and the bus is stopped for
the purpose of receiving or discharging
passengers, the driver of any other vehicle
that approaches the school bus from any
direction on the same street, highway, or
public vehicular area shall bring that other
vehicle to a full stop and shall remain
stopped. The driver of the other vehicle shall
not proceed to move, pass, or attempt to
pass the school bus until after the
mechanical stop signal has been withdrawn,
the flashing red stoplights have been turned
off, and the bus has started to move. ” The
statute continues to say “ the driver of a
vehicle traveling in the opposite direction
from the school bus, upon any road, highway
or city street that has been divided into two
roadways, so constructed as to separate
vehicular traffic between the two roadways by
an intervening space (including a center lane
for left turns if the roadway consists of
at least four more lanes ) or by a physical
barrier, need not stop upon meeting and
passing any school bus that has stopped in
the roadway across the dividing space or
physical barrier. ” (§ 20 -217). If anyone has
any questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact the Burgaw Police Department. See
the brochure to the right supplied by the NC
DMV School Bus & Traffic Safety Section.
