The Parks Foundation of Burgaw proudly celebrated the official groundbreaking of the GAF Community Splash Pad on
Tuesday, July 28, 2026, marking the beginning of construction on one of the community's most anticipated
recreational projects.
Representatives from the Parks Foundation of Burgaw, GAF, and the Town of Burgaw Town Council gathered at Bishop
Rayford Hankins Memorial Park to commemorate this milestone, which has been nearly three years in the making.
The GAF Community Splash Pad represents the culmination of a community -wide fundraising effort led by the Parks
Foundation of Burgaw. Since the project's inception, the Foundation has worked tirelessly to secure donations,
sponsorships, and partnerships that would make this exciting amenity a reality for local families.
Construction of the splash pad is being made possible through the generous support of Environments Unlimited, Drish
Utilities, and S&W Concrete, all of whom are donating significant portions of the project's construction services and
materials. The remaining project costs have been raised through the Parks Foundation's fundraising efforts and
generous community supporters.
To accelerate the project and begin construction this summer, the Town of Burgaw contributed a small portion of the
remaining funds needed to move the project forward. The Parks Foundation of Burgaw and the Town have established
a two -year repayment agreement, ensuring the project will ultimately be 100 percent funded through private
donations and Foundation fundraising without the use of taxpayer dollars.
The splash pad is expected to be completed by the end of August 2026 and will provide a fun, safe, and accessible
destination for children and families throughout the region.
The splash pad is being named in recognition of the significant support of GAF, North America ’s largest roofing and
waterproofing manufacturer. In addition to monetary donations, GAF, which has operated in the Burgaw community
for more than 30 years, is also donating its StreetBond solar-reflective coatings for the splash pad to provide a colorful,
protective area for the community.
This collaboration is part of GAF’s social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which focuses on making a positive
difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging GAF's expertise, resources, and products to help
build resilient communities.
Designed with accessibility in mind, the splash pad will be fully ADA compliant, allowing children of all abilities to enjoy
the facility. Upon opening, the splash pad will operate as a flowthrough water system, with long -term plans to convert
the facility to a recirculating system in the coming years as additional funding becomes available.

this project and helped make today possible.”
"While today marks the beginning of construction, it also marks the beginning of countless future memories. We can't
wait to welcome families to the splash pad and see this vision come to life.”
"Investing in spaces and resources that bring people together is essential to building strong, resilient communities, ”
said Steve Boehling, General Manager at GAF -Burgaw. “As a long -standing neighbor and employer, we ’re proud to
partner with the Parks Foundation of Burgaw to support a project that will create lasting value and make a positive
difference for local families."
The Parks Foundation of Burgaw extends its sincere appreciation to every donor, sponsor, volunteer, and community
member who contributed to this project over the past three years. Their generosity has transformed a vision into
reality and created a lasting investment in the health, wellness, and quality of life of Burgaw residents.
Following the completion of construction, the community will be invited to celebrate during a Ribbon Cutting and
Grand Opening Celebration, with the date to be announced at a later time. The event will feature food trucks,
inflatables, a glow party, family activities, and much more, providing an exciting opportunity for residents to
