The Town of Burgaw is proud to be an active member of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM), an organization
dedicated to supporting and strengthening local governments across the state.
Founded in 1908, the NCLM serves municipalities throughout North Carolina by providing advocacy, training, education,
guidance, networking, and operational resources that help local governments better serve their communities. The
organization works closely with elected officials and municipal staff to address the unique challenges and opportunities
facing towns and cities across the state.
Throughout the year, town employees and elected officials take advantage of the many educational trainings, workshops,
webinars, and conferences offered through the NCLM. These programs provide valuable guidance, professional
development, and networking opportunities that help strengthen local government operations and public service.
In addition to these ongoing educational programs, the NCLM hosts its annual conference, CityVision, which brings together
local government leaders from across North Carolina to learn, collaborate, discuss legislative and municipal issues, and share
ideas focused on building stronger communities.
This year ’s CityVision conference was held in Raleigh from May 5–7, featuring educational sessions, statewide municipal
discussions, leadership development programs, and updates on issues impacting local governments throughout North
Carolina. Mayor Olivia Dawson, Mayor Pro -tem James Malloy, Council Member Michael Pearsall, Council Member Myra
McDuffie, and Town Manager James Gantt attended the conference on behalf of the town. Their participation provided an
opportunity to learn from municipal leaders across the state, engage in
discussions on current legislative and local government matters, and bring back
valuable information, resources, and ideas that can continue supporting the
Town’s operations, services, and future planning efforts.
During this year ’s conference, the Town of Burgaw was honored with
recognition through the Commit to Civility program, acknowledging the Town ’s
elected officials for their participation and commitment to promoting respectful
dialogue, professionalism, and civility in local government leadership.
The Commit to Civility initiative encourages elected officials to foster productive
communication, maintain professionalism during public service, and promote
positive engagement within their communities and governing boards.
The Town of Burgaw appreciates the continued efforts of its
elected officials, staff, and municipal partners who remain
committed to professional development, collaboration, and
serving the community with integrity and respect.
