UPCOMING
Downtown parking has been an issue I have been addressing for
many years as it grows, and I understand how important it is to
our residents, visitors, and local businesses. Creating solutions
for parking in a historic downtown like ours is not simple and
requires thoughtful planning, community input, and funding.
We have carefully considered many different options to improve
parking in downtown Burgaw. While we would all like to see
more parking directly in front of our storefronts, the reality is
that, in a historic downtown setting, additional spaces cannot
simply be created along the main street without significantly
altering the area's character and layout.
What we can do —and what we have been actively working
toward—is identifying opportunities to create additional parking
in other areas of downtown. These solutions may include nearby
parking lots or spaces that require walking a block or so to reach
businesses and destinations.
This approach is common in many successful downtown
districts. It helps preserve the charm and walkability of
downtown while still expanding access for those who want to
shop, dine, and enjoy everything our community has to offer.
It’s important to remember that projects like this take time,
planning, engineering, partnerships, and securing funding are all
part of the process.
Please know that this issue is not being ignored. It has been a
priority for years, and we will continue working toward
thoughtful solutions that benefit our downtown businesses and
our community as a whole.
Downtown Burgaw is special for its historic character, local
businesses, and welcoming atmosphere. Our goal is to improve
access, enjoyment, and walkability while protecting the qualities
that make our downtown unique.
