Meet our first-ever Firehouse Dog, Halligan!
We’d like to introduce everyone to
Halligan, or Hal for short! Hal has
officially been adopted as our first -ever
Firehouse Dog, and he’s already settling
right in at the Burgaw Fire Department.
Hal recently took his first ride on one of
our fire engines and loved every second
of it. He ’s also already making friends
— including his first station visitors,
who stopped by to see the fire trucks
and were excited to meet our newest four-legged firefighter.
With Hal officially adopted, we will begin training him to be
available during emergency responses, community events,
station tours, and other unplanned opportunities to get out
and meet the community he serves. Hal will play an
important role in helping us connect with residents of all
ages while sharing fire and life safety messages in a friendly,
approachable way.
We hope everyone is as excited as we are to welcome Hal
into the Burgaw Fire Department family, and we can ’t wait
for you to meet him in person very soon!
As we welcome Hal to the station, we also want to
remind everyone to take extra precautions as winter
weather is expected in our area this weekend . Cold
temperatures and icy conditions — even without snow
— can increase the risk of fires, injuries, and power
outages.
• Use heaters safely: Keep space heaters at least 3
feet away from anything that can burn and never
leave them unattended.
• Never use unsafe heat sources: Do not use ovens,
grills, or generators indoors for warmth.
• Prepare for power outages: Have flashlights,
batteries, blankets, and extra layers available.
• Watch for ice: Bridges, sidewalks, and steps can
become slick quickly — slow down and use
caution.
• Check on neighbors: Older adults and those with
medical needs may need additional support during
cold weather.
Hal and the Burgaw Fire Department encourage
everyone to stay warm, stay safe, and look out for one
another this weekend. We ’re proud to have Hal join
our department and look forward to seeing him out in
the community very soon.
Stay safe,
Your Friends at the Burgaw Fire Department
