Our T own
Published weekly by the Town of Burgaw | October 27-31, 2025
The Town of Burgaw, in partnership with the Daughters of the American
Revolution (DAR), invites the public to attend the annual Veterans Day
Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic Burgaw
Train Depot in downtown Burgaw.
This time-honored ceremony pays tribute to the men and women who have
served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces. Each year,
community members gather on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th
month to honor the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of America ’s
veterans.
The program will include remarks from local officials, a presentation of
colors, patriotic music, and a moment of silence in remembrance of all who
have given their lives in service to our nation. Representatives from the
DAR and local veterans ’ organizations will lead and participate in the
ceremony.
The Daughters of the American Revolution, through the local Pender
County chapter, have hosted this meaningful ceremony for many years in
collaboration with the Town of Burgaw. The chapter is dedicated to
promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and supporting our
nation’s veterans. Their members work year -round to recognize veterans
and active -duty service members, ensuring that the community never
forgets the sacrifices made for freedom.
“We are proud to join together as a community to honor those who have
served our country with courage and commitment, ” said Mayor Dawson of
Burgaw. “This annual gathering is a moment of reflection, gratitude, and
unity for our town.”
The public is encouraged to attend and join us in showing appreciation for
veterans from all branches of the military. The event is held inside, and
seating will be available.

Once Upon a Time in Burgaw...
The Town of Burgaw is proud to
once again participate in
Operation Green Light, a
nationwide initiative to honor the
service and sacrifice of our
nation’s veterans. From
November 4–11, residents and
businesses are encouraged to join
us in showing support by shining a
green light at their homes or
workplaces.
During this week, Town buildings will be illuminated in green as a
visible tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S.
Armed Forces. Operation Green Light also serves as a reminder of
the resources available to veterans and their families, and the
importance of supporting those who continue to serve our
communities after their military careers.
We invite everyone in Burgaw to participate —replace a porch
light, light up a window, or display a green bulb in your business.
Together, let’s shine a light of appreciation and hope for all who
have given so much in service to our country.

Lithium-ion batteries are found in phones, scooters, laptops, and power tools—but when handled
improperly, they can overheat or catch fire. Here are simple ways to stay safe:
• Charge smart. Only use the charger that came with your device, or one approved by the manufacturer.
• Stay alert while charging. Always charge on a hard, flat surface — never on beds, couches, or near anything
flammable.
• Buy certified. Look for testing marks from UL (Underwriters Laboratories), ETL, or other recognized safety labs.
• Know the warning signs. If a battery swells, smells strange, leaks, or feels unusually hot — stop using it
immediately and move it outside away from anything that can burn.
• Dispose safely. Never toss batteries in household trash — take them to an approved recycling drop-off or
hazardous-waste collection site.
Our mission at the Burgaw Fire Department is more than emergency response
— it’s prevention, education, and community connection. Your continued
support helps us build a stronger, safer Burgaw for everyone.
Thank you for charging forward with us this Fire Prevention Month — and
remember, safety doesn’t stop here! Stay tuned for more seasonal safety tips,
event highlights, and community updates.
