In 1944, Burgaw citizens decided that they
wanted to make their mark on the map of
aviation. Town of Burgaw and Pender County
both invested less than $1,000 of tax money to
construct “Burgaw Airport”, located where Nash
Equipment is today. The project was completed
and opened on October 11, 1944 and was in
operation until 1953. Today, Nash Equipment
still uses one of the hangers/offices for
their business.
