The Town of Burgaw is partnering with Ardurra to create a Comprehensive Storm Water Master Plan. This important
project will identify storm water needs throughout the town, evaluate the current drainage system, and develop a Capital
Improvement Plan (CIP) to guide upgrades and improvements over time.
As part of this effort, Ardurra has held a public input meeting and met in person with town staff to discuss key concerns
and priority areas. However, gathering additional information directly from our residents and businesses is still essential to
creating a plan that meets the needs of the entire community.
To gather your input, an online survey has been created. Your feedback will help identify problem areas, capture local
experiences, and ensure the plan addresses real -world concerns. Whether you’ve noticed drainage issues, flooding spots,
or simply want to share your perspective, your participation will make a difference.
Help Shape Burgaw’s Storm W ater Master Plan
How to Participate:
• Complete the short survey online by visiting: https://

• Or scan the QR code with your smartphone to go
directly to the survey:

Happy Friday, Everyone!
It’s National Child Safety Car Seat Week and we are super excited to see everyone today from 4pm -6pm at our station for our
Car Seat Check Up event! We hope you will take a few minutes to stop by to make sure your child is protected as much as
possible. This week is focused on emphasizing child passengers and the importance of correctly utilizing car seats to keep
children safe.
B U R G A W F I R E D E P A R T M E N T N E W S
CAR SEA T I NFORMA TI ON
Quick Facts
• Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of injury for children.
• Correct use of car seats reduces the risk of serious injury by more than half.
• Most car seats are installed or used incorrectly—often just one small step off.
Top 10 Common Mistakes (and Fixes)
• Loose installation → Tighten at belt path to under 1" of movement.
• Loose harness → Do the pinch test at the collarbone—no slack.
• Chest clip too low/high → Place at armpit level.
• Forward-facing too soon → Rear-face to the seat’s limit.
• Wrong belt path → Use the rear-facing or forward-facing path as labeled.
• Skipping the tether → Use top tether on every forward-facing ride.
• Booster too early → Stay harnessed until the harness is outgrown.
• Shoulder belt behind the back → Belt must cross chest & shoulder.
• Aftermarket add-ons → Only use parts approved by your seat’s manufacturer.
• Expired/unknown seat history → Check labels for expiration and register your
seat for recalls.
Myth vs. Fact
• Myth: “My child is big for their age, so they can move up early.
Fact: Use size limits, not age.
• Myth: “The middle seat is always best.
Fact: The best seat is the one that allows correct installation and
use every ride.
• Myth: “Winter coats keep kids warmer and safer.”
Fact: Coats create harness slack. Dress in thin layers and add a
blanket over the buckles.
When to Replace or Move Up
• Outgrown limits: height or weight max reached (check both vehicle and seat manuals).
• Crash: Replace after moderate to severe crashes; follow seat manufacturer guidance for
minor crashes.
• Expiration: Typically 6–10 years from manufacture—check the label.
• Recall: Register your seat to get notifications.
