Honoring 9/11 and Looking Ahead to Community Safety
On Thursday, our town came together to honor the memory of September 11, 2001 in several heartfelt ways. The morning
began with Fire Marshal Kratovel taking part in the 9/11 Bridge Walk in Surf City, joining others in a powerful tribute of
remembrance and unity. Later in the day, crews completed the 343 Memorial Workout, pushing through in honor of the 343
firefighters who gave their lives in service that day.
In the evening, our community gathered for the town ’s 9/11 Ceremony, where community members, local officials and two
members of the Fire Department spoke. Firefighter Carlisle gave a moving speech that reminded us of the bravery and
sacrifice shown on that day. Chief Prevatte also spoke, sharing words that reflected on courage, service, and the strength we
find in one another.
Looking ahead, our town is also committed to keeping families safe here at home. We invite everyone to our Car Seat Safety
Check Event on Friday, September 26th, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the Burgaw Fire Department. Certified technicians will be
available to check car seats, help with proper installation, and share safety tips. This service is completely free and open to all
families in our community.
