The Burgaw Police Department is once again stepping up to support local families with their
annual Cram the Cruiser Back -to-School Giveaway. As students prepare to head back to class, the
department is collecting school supplies and offering assistance to ensure children in the
community are ready for a successful year.
Families in need of supplies can apply in person at the Burgaw Police Department, located at 109 N
Walker Street, Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The deadline to apply is
Friday, August 8th.
This initiative not only provides essential items like notebooks, pencils, and backpacks —it also
strengthens the connection between the police department and the community it serves. "Cram the Cruiser" is about more
than just supplies; it’s about showing support and care for the youth of Burgaw.
If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, stop by the department and fill out an application today! For
more information, contact the Burgaw Police Department at 910-259-4924.

We would like to remind all citizens of Burgaw, and

at Large ordinance. The ordinance reads as follows:
(a) It shall be unlawful for any owner of a dog, other
animal, or fowl, to permit them to run at large or be off the
premises of its owner and not under the restraint of a
competent person. Restraint of a competent person shall be
a leash in the physical control of such person and not exceed
twenty (20) feet in length. An electronic obedience collar, not
a GPS tracking collar, may be utilized if in proper working
order, within a reasonable distance, not to exceed 20 feet.
Having a trained dog under voice command/control will not
be considered as a restraint.
(b) Upon an officer observation of a dog running at large
or off the premises of its owner and not under the control of
a competent person, the officer may, at their discretion,
impound the dog, per the county’s Animal Control Policy, or
return it to its owner.
(c) Upon the receipt of a complaint that a dog is running
at large or is off the premises of its owner and not under the
control of a competent person, the officer shall investigate
the complaint and, upon a finding that there is probable
cause that a violation has occurred, the officer may issue a

STAY ALERT, INFORMED AND SAFE
Did you know...
It is against the Town’s Municipal Code to deposit your grass clippings and other yard waste into the road.
Grass clippings are made mostly of water and can create unsafe road conditions especially for motorcycle and
bicycle riders.
Yard debris build up can also get caught in the Town’s storm drain system and can cause drainage issues and
localized flooding.
Instead, you can…
• Take a few passes near the roadway with an unenclosed blower towards your yard.
• Bag your clippings and other yard waste to be picked up by Public Works.
• Mix grass clippings with leaves and soil to make a backyard compost pile.
• Leave the clippings on your lawn allowing grass clippings to decompose and release
water and nutrients back into your lawn’s soil.
We encourage everyone to help the Town maintain a safe roadway environment for all users!
