annual 4th of July Parade, set to take place on Friday, July 4th at 10:00 AM in
downtown Burgaw.
This festive, family -friendly event promises a lively celebration of Independence

celebrating America, so we ask everyone participating and spectating to join in on
the fun by decorating themselves and their wheels in red, white, and blue!
After the parade, kids and adults alike can cool off at the Train Depot to enjoy free

Summer Swimming Safety Tips
As the temperature rises, so do visits to pools, rivers, and beaches. Before you dive in, make sure safety is part of your
swim plan. The Town of Burgaw Fire Marshal’s Office is here to help you and your family stay safe all summer long.
Splash Into Safety
Top 5 Swimming Safety Rules for Families
1. Swim with an Adult
Children should always swim with a responsible adult watching closely — not just nearby. Drowning is silent and can
happen in seconds.
2. Wear a Life Jacket When Needed
U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are a must for:
- Non-swimmers or weak swimmers
- Children on boats, docks, or near open water
- All boaters – no matter how strong a swimmer!
3. Learn to Swim
Enroll children in age-appropriate swim lessons. Knowing how to float, tread water, and swim can be lifesaving.
4. Stay in Designated Swim Areas
Swim where lifeguards are present, and obey all posted signs and flags. Watch for changing currents or weather
conditions.
5. Bright is Best!
Brightly colored swimwear — neon orange, yellow, or pink — helps spot swimmers quickly in the water.
From your Burgaw Fire Marshal
Stay cool. Stay safe. Make a splash—the safe way!

Water Watcher Tips
Designate a ‘Water Watcher’ when around pools, lakes,
or rivers. This person should:
- Watch the water without distractions (no phones!)
- Take 15-minute shifts if in a group
- Know how to call 911 and perform CPR
River Safety
Burgaw and surrounding areas offer beautiful natural
water spots– but they come with extra risks:
- Don’t dive into unknown waters-you never know
how deep or shallow it is
- Look out for currents and underwater obstacles
- Always wear a life jacket while boating, tubing, or
kayaking
Swimming Safety for Kids
Help kids remember safety with this easy rule:
“A-B-C: Always Be Careful!”
- A: Ask before you get in
- B: Be with a grown-up
- C: Check your surroundings
Safety Equipment Checklist
Make sure you have:
- US Coast Guard-approved life jackets
- Reach poles or hooks near pools
- First aid kit
- CPR training for supervising adults
- Emergency contact numbers posted
