NEWSLETTER
Our T own
Published weekly by the Town of Burgaw | May 5-9, 2025
The Town of Burgaw is marking a special week of recognition and celebration as it
honors National Public Services Week, Professional Municipal Clerks Week, National
Travel and Tourism Week, and National Small Business Week. This unique convergence
offers a meaningful opportunity to spotlight the heart of the community: its dedicated
public servants, thriving small businesses, vibrant tourism sector, and the essential work
of municipal clerks.
During National Public Services Week, Burgaw extends its gratitude to the many public employees who keep the town
running smoothly. From Public Works and Facilities & Grounds crews to our Police Officers and Administrative staff, these
professionals play a vital role in maintaining the town’s infrastructure, safety, and quality of life.
“Our town staff work tirelessly behind the scenes every day to make Burgaw a wonderful place to
live, work, and visit,” said Mayor Olivia Dawson. “We are proud to celebrate and thank them for their
dedication and service.”
As part of Professional Municipal Clerks Week, the town recognizes the often unsung yet crucial
work of the clerks who serve as the backbone of municipal operations. This week and every week, we
honor our Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk for their professionalism, attention to detail, and
service to both the local government and the public.
In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, Burgaw is highlighting its charming downtown,
historical landmarks, and outdoor attractions that draw visitors year -round. This annual tradition
spotlights the critical role that travel and tourism play in strengthening communities, boosting local economies, and
showcasing the unique charm of places like Burgaw.
“Tourism is more than just visitors — it’s about pride in our town and the stories we share,”
said Mayor Dawson. “We invite both residents and guests to explore what makes Burgaw a
hidden gem of Eastern North Carolina.”
National Small Business Week brings attention to the entrepreneurial spirit that fuels
Burgaw’s economy. From family -run restaurants to boutique shops, these businesses are
the heartbeat of the local economy. The town encourages its residents and visitors to shop
local and support our hometown businesses, not only this week, but year-round as well.
“We wouldn’t be the same without our small businesses,” said Mayor Dawson. “They create jobs, foster innovation, and help
define the unique character of Burgaw.”
As the celebrations unfold, Burgaw reflects on the strength, resilience, and cooperation that define its community. By
honoring its public servants, municipal leaders, tourism assets, and small businesses, the town is sending a powerful message:
Burgaw is a community that works together, grows together, and celebrates together.
