It is against the Town’s Municipal Code to
deposit your grass clippings and other
yard waste into the road.
Grass clippings are made mostly of water and
can create unsafe road conditions especially for
motorcycle and bicycle riders.
Yard debris build up can also get caught in the
Town’s storm drain system and can cause
drainage issues and localized flooding.
Instead, you can…
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe
roadway environment for all users!
• Take a few passes near the roadway
with an unenclosed blower towards
your yard.
• Bag your clippings and other yard
waste to be picked up by Public Works.
• Mix grass clippings with leaves and soil
to make a backyard compost pile.
• Leave the clippings on your lawn
allowing grass clippings to decompose
and release water and nutrients back
into your lawn’s soil.
Thinking of putting up a shed, digging a new
sprinkler system or setting up a fence around the
yard? Before you dig, call NC811! Today, more and
more of the utility companies that supply your home
or business with power, heat, water, telephone,
sewer, gas, and cable television service are
delivering those services underground. Fortunately,
you can find out where public utility -owned lines are
buried on your property by contacting 811 either by
phone or online. NC811 will notify our member
utility companies of your excavation needs and
those utilities will have professional locators mark
their buried lines, free of charge.
Before you dig, call NC 811 first!
We would like to remind the Town of Burgaw residents and family members of the RU Okay? program
established by the Burgaw Police Department. The program calls individuals weekly to check their safety
and security. The program is open to Burgaw residents who are elderly, shut ins, or just could use
someone to check in on them throughout the week. Those individuals are also notified during inclement
weather conditions such as hurricanes or ice storms of safety concerns. If you or a family member are
interested in being added to the program, please contact the Burgaw Police Department at 910 -259-4924.
