We are currently transitioning to a new Solid Waste and
Recycling contractor, Wall Recycling, LLC, for all residential
and commercial waste services. There will be no increase
in garbage or recycling rates with this change. Wall
Recycling, LLC will be providing all new 96 -gallon garbage
and recycling carts to all residences and businesses within
the town limits that currently have carts. Distribution of
the new carts will be completed by the end of June. Below
is a transition timeline:
• New trash and recycle carts are currently being
distributed. Do not use these carts until after June
26! Trash carts will be black with a black lid and
recycle carts will be black with a blue lid. A calendar
and information from Wall Recycling will be attached
to your new cart.
• GFL will begin removing their carts after your last scheduled trash/recycling pick -
up in June. Leave your GFL carts out by the street until they are removed - This
process may take a few days!
June 26 - East Side Recycling and town-wide trash collection
• GFL Recycling carts should be left by the street until removed by GFL.
• All GFL trash carts should be left by the street until removed by GFL.
• July 3 will be the first collection day for town-wide trash and town-wide recycling
by Wall Recycling using the new carts. Collection days will remain on Wednesday.
• Town-wide recycling will be picked up every other Wednesday beginning July 3.
There will no longer be alternating east and west side recycling weeks.
New solid waste service to begin soon
All customer service complaints will be transferred to
Wall Recycling directly. New customers will still call Town
Hall to set up service. Any customers with missed
pickups, broken carts, complaints or concerns need to
call Wall Recycling directly at (910) 444-7777.

The Town of Burgaw is proud to announce the observance of Juneteenth as a floating
holiday for all town employees, which was adopted by the board last year after the
holiday. This new policy aims to honor the historical significance of Juneteenth and
provide employees with the flexibility to commemorate this important day.
Recognizing Juneteenth as a floating holiday allows Burgaw employees to take time
off to observe the day according to their personal and family traditions.
"The Town of Burgaw is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community,"
said Olivia Dawson, Mayor of Burgaw. "By acknowledging Juneteenth as a floating
holiday, we honor the shared history but also support our employees.”
Employees can choose to use their floating holiday on Juneteenth or on another day of their choosing within the
calendar year. This initiative is part of the town's broader efforts to promote cultural awareness and understanding.
In addition to the floating holiday, the Town of Burgaw is a sponsor of the upcoming Juneteenth Celebration that will
take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
"We believe that recognizing Juneteenth as a floating holiday is a step towards greater equity and inclusion in our
workplace and community," said James Gantt, Town Manager of Burgaw.
For more information on the Juneteenth observance and related events, please visit the Town of Burgaw's official
website or Social Media.

Happy Friday Everyone!
We hope everyone is managing to stay cool in this dry and hot weather. We would like to
remind everyone that with these dry conditions and no rain in the forecast to be extra
diligent about any type of burning. According to the NC Forest Service, “Careless debris
burning is the leading cause of wildfires in North Carolina”.
This month has been a busy one, not just for our town, but for our department. We were
very excited to spend time at the Blueberry Festival this past weekend and interact with
all those who came. Our department this month also had the privilege to visit Excel every
Tuesday and read with the children. This past week, we attended the Community
Resource Fair hosted at Pender County DSS to bring attentions to Elder Abuse Prevention
Month.
This past week also brought in the swearing of two of our members who were promoted
to Apparatus Operators. Ms. Ivy Floyd and Mr. Joey Smith were sworn in as full time
Apparatus Operators in our department on Tuesday evening. We can not express how
proud we are at all the hard work they have put in and continue to put in striving
towards bettering themselves and our community.
This next week we kick off the first ever “Be Your Own Hero ”
Junior Firefighter Camp. We are super excited to have the
opportunity to expand the knowledge of all the children attending. We wanted to
extend our appreciation to all of those who have made this camp possible.
We can ’t wait to check back in next week with pictures of our camp. We hope
everyone stays safe and keeps cool as this summer heat starts to kick in.
Until next week,
Your Friends at Burgaw Fire Department

The Transportation Planning Division of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), in cooperation with
Pender County and its municipalities, and the Cape Fear Rural Planning Organization, is developing a Comprehensive
Transportation Plan (CTP) for Pender County. The Pender County CTP will be a multi -modal plan that identifies the
existing and future transportation system, including highways, public transportation, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian
facilities and the ferry system that serve the current and anticipated travel demand. This will be a long -range plan that
identifies major transportation improvements that will be needed over the next 30 years. This survey is a means of
identifying transportation issues that are important to the citizens, officials and businesses in and around Pender
County. Your input is vital in developing a plan that meets the future needs of the people who live, work or visit in
Pender County.
