Effective July 1, 2024, the Town of Burgaw will
be transitioning to a new Solid Waste and
Recycling contractor, Wall Recycling, LLC, for all
residential and commercial waste services. We
are pleased to announce that there will be no
increase in garbage or recycling rates with this
change.
Wall Recycling, LLC will be providing all new 96 -
gallon garbage and recycling carts to all
residences and businesses within the town limits
that currently have carts. Distribution of the new
carts is scheduled to begin on June 16, 2024 and
will be completed by the end of June.
In addition, the Town of Burgaw will assume all
management and billing responsibilities for
dumpster services at all locations within the
town. New dumpsters will be provided to all
locations currently utilizing dumpster services.
Since the town has not previously managed this
service, Wall Recycling representatives will be
reaching out to each business to coordinate the
transition. We anticipate that dumpster
customers will experience a decrease in their
monthly rates and greater consistency in billing
amounts.
For any questions regarding the change in
service, please contact the Burgaw Town Hall
at (910) 259-2151.
We appreciate your cooperation during this
transition and look forward to continuing to
serve the community with improved waste
management services.

We would like all citizens of Burgaw, and visitors to our town, to be
aware of the change to Sec. 4-1 - Running at Large ordinance. The new
wording was approved by the Board of Commissioners at the March
board meeting. The ordinance reads as follows:
(a) It shall be unlawful for any owner of a dog, other animal, or fowl, to
permit them to run at large or be off the premises of its owner and not
under the restraint of a competent person. Restraint of a competent person
shall be a leash in the physical control of such person and not exceed
twenty (20) feet in length. An electronic obedience collar, not a GPS
tracking collar, may be utilized if in proper working order, within a
reasonable distance, not to exceed 20 feet. Having a trained dog under
voice command/control will not be considered as a restraint.
(b) Upon an officer observation of a dog running at large or off the
premises of its owner and not under the control of a competent person, the
officer may, at their discretion, impound the dog, per the county’s Animal
Control Policy, or return it to its owner.
(c) Upon the receipt of a complaint that a dog is running at large or is
off the premises of its owner and not under the control of a competent
person, the officer shall investigate the complaint and, upon a finding that
there is probable cause that a violation has occurred, the officer may issue
a citation or a warning or take any other action provided for by ordinance
or state law as the circumstances may require.

Pender County Tax Appraisal Information
The Field Workers will be moving into the Burgaw
Township area, including the Town of Burgaw, by the last
week of May. They will be in this area approximately 4 -6
weeks before moving into the next area. For prior areas
that have already been field canvassed, they will be
sending out field supervisors to conduct Quality Control
work on randomly selected parcels (NOT all parcels) to
ensure the consistency and completeness of the work
being done by field appraisal staff; this is just another way
to ensure the information they have in the system for the
2026 reappraisal is as correct as possible to avoid some of
the issues from the past. The red -circled area is where
they will be moving into by the last week in May.
