The Town of Burgaw is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ron Meredith as our new
Planning Director, effective April 16, 2024. With a rich background in planning and
community development, Ron brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team.
Ron holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Geography from the University of North Carolina at
Wilmington, where he also earned a certification in Geographical Information Systems. He is
currently advancing his knowledge through the Master of Science in Planning and
Development Program at East Carolina University. His commitment to professional
development is further demonstrated by his certification as a Zoning Official (CZO) from the
North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials.
Throughout his career, Ron has showcased his talent in various roles across the planning and
development spectrum. At Brunswick County Planning and Community Enforcement, as a
Planner II, he was responsible for preparing and presenting rezonings, reviewing site -specific plans for multi -family
and townhome projects, and assisting with zoning enforcement matters. His experience at New Hanover County
Planning and Land Use as a Current Planner is notable, where he led a team of planners, coordinated Technical
Review Committee (TRC) meetings, and managed the review and approval process for residential and commercial
developments.
Significantly, Ron also contributed his expertise to Pender County Planning and Community Development as a
Current Planner. In this role, he reviewed residential developments through the Technical Review Committee
process, coordinated TRC meetings, prepared and presented cases with the Pender County Planning Board, and
volunteered for variance cases with the Pender County Board of Adjustment. His ability to answer public inquiries on
planning matters and processes with clarity and professionalism speaks to his commitment to community
engagement and service.
Ron's expertise is not limited to planning and zoning. He has a strong background in environmental technology,
mapping, and project management, making him well -equipped to address the diverse challenges of urban planning
and development. His software skills, including proficiency in ArcGIS, Energov, Microsoft Excel, and Photoshop,
enable him to leverage technology effectively in planning and development projects.
The Town of Burgaw is confident that Ron's extensive experience, coupled with his passion for community
development and urban planning, will contribute significantly to our town's strategic growth and development. We
look forward to the innovative approaches and fresh perspectives he will bring to the Planning Department.
Please join us in welcoming Ron Meredith to the Town of Burgaw. Together, we will work towards creating a more
vibrant, sustainable, and well-planned community.
