Mayor Dawson proclaimed March 22, 2024 as Arbor Day during
the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and
water, lower our heating and cooling costs, moderate the
temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for
wildlife. Not only do trees give us paper, wood for our homes, and
fuel for our fires, they also increase property values, enhance the
economic vitality of business areas and beautify the community.
The Town of Burgaw encourages citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts
to protect our trees and woodlands; furthermore, we urge citizens to plant and care for
trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations.
We invite everyone to join us for our annual tree planting ceremony at Hankins Park,
located at 310 N. Walker Street, on March 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM. The tree giveaway
will occur on the Courthouse Square from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, while supplies last, for
Burgaw residents only; must bring a copy of your water bill as proof of residency to
claim your free tree.
Help us keep Our Town clean
and beautiful!
